LOLER Inspections for Logistics & Warehousing
A distribution operation measures downtime in cases per hour. Fleet thorough examination is unavoidable, so the question is how few trucks are off the floor at once and how quickly a defect turns into a decision.
Certificate expired or lift out of compliance? You're exposed to enforcement action, and your insurance may not respond, until it's resolved. What to do.
What Makes This Sector Different
The compliance pressures specific to logistics and warehousing
Fleet examinations, not single visits
Examining forty trucks one at a time is the expensive way. We phase fleet examinations so the operation keeps running, and report by fleet so a transport manager can see the whole position rather than forty separate certificates.
Attachments are lifting equipment too
Side-shifters, rotators, bale clamps, jibs and man-baskets are frequently missed. They fall under LOLER in their own right, and a man-basket on a forklift lifts people — which puts it on the six-month cycle.
Loading bay plant sits outside the forklift schedule
Dock levellers, scissor lifts and goods lifts are often on a different register from the truck fleet, or on none at all. They are part of the same duty.

Our Experience Here
Why we say this
Our 3PL warehouse case study covers a forklift fleet thorough examination cycle.
Who enforces here
Usually the local authority. Storage for wholesale and retail distribution is council-enforced, so an environmental health officer is the one most likely to ask for your fleet's examination records. The main exceptions are warehousing run as part of a transport business and container depots serving a port, airport or railway, which are HSE-enforced.
