LOLER Inspections for Construction & Engineering

Site plant moves, gets reassembled and changes hands mid-project — and each of those events can trigger a statutory examination in its own right, separately from the six- or twelve-month cycle. On construction sites, a relocation is one of the most commonly missed triggers.

What Makes This Sector Different

The compliance pressures specific to construction and engineering

Relocation triggers an examination

LOLER Regulation 9(2) requires a thorough examination after equipment is installed or reassembled at a new site, wherever its safety depends on how it was installed. Plant arriving from another site with a valid-looking certificate is not automatically compliant here.

Hired plant is still your duty

Hiring equipment does not transfer the duty to examine it while you are using it. Hire documentation is frequently thinner than the site assumes, and it is the user who is exposed.

Accessories outnumber the machines

Slings, shackles, chains and eyebolts are lifting accessories on the six-month cycle. They are cheap, numerous, easy to substitute informally, and the most common gap we find in a site register.

Our Experience Here

Why we say this

We provide construction and engineering compliance support to Skanska.

Who enforces here

HSE. Construction sites are HSE-enforced, and lifting plant is a standing item on a site visit.

Talk to the engineer, not a call handler

Every survey is scoped by an engineer who has worked on this class of plant. If your question is whether a particular machine falls under LOLER, PUWER or both, that is a conversation worth having before you book anything.

Common Questions

Construction & Engineering — Common Questions

Do you carry out LOLER inspections for construction and engineering?

Yes. We provide construction and engineering compliance support to Skanska. We examine the classes of plant listed on this page, and every survey is scoped by an engineer with a background in that equipment.

Relocation triggers an examination — what does that mean in practice?

LOLER Regulation 9(2) requires a thorough examination after equipment is installed or reassembled at a new site, wherever its safety depends on how it was installed. Plant arriving from another site with a valid-looking certificate is not automatically compliant here.

Are you independent of maintenance contractors?

Yes. We do not sell maintenance, repairs, spares or replacement plant, so a defect recorded in a Report of Thorough Examination is never a quotation in disguise. For a duty-holder presenting compliance evidence to an insurer, a client or the HSE, that separation is worth being able to state plainly.
