Engineering insurance in the UK has long been sold alongside engineer surveying, so a great many businesses do receive statutory thorough examinations arranged through their insurer, and those examinations are usually perfectly sound. The problem is that nothing makes it automatic. Being insured is not the same as having a current Report of Thorough Examination, and the only way to know which you have is to look at the document.

A description of the equipment, the examination performed, identification of defects with severity classification, recommended timescales for repair, and the date of the next examination. The report is signed by the competent person who carried out the examination.

How quickly can a lapsed inspection be arranged?

Are reports issued electronically?

Yes, on the same day as the examination. Digital Reports of Thorough Examination include photographs of what was examined and any defect, can be supplied to insurer portals or FM platforms on request, and we remind you before the next examination is due.
